Along Sutter-Ione Road

All of these images were taken along Sutter-Ione Road in Amador County over the Memorial Day weekend.

The cows ~

This is the second C.M. Russell Western print I've found.  The first, I have since framed, is entitled "Worked Over."  This print is unnamed but I was thrilled it is a C.M. Russell!  Couldn't believe my luck when I found it at the Amador Hospice Thrift Shop for $2.50.

Blue day, in a good way

It was 50% off blue tags and 25% off green tags at Eco Thrift in Sacramento.  The Ellen Tracy navy blue shoes  ($3.49) are my first foray into used shoes.  It is nearly impossible to find navy blue slingback open-toe pumps in the retail stores.  I guess navy blue hasn't trended back in.

The Converse "vintage" swimsuit suit is NWT ($5.73), Anchorblue short-sleeved cotton sweater ($3.73), and pack of retro cards ($2.23).

All these goodies for the grand sum of $15.82.  Who could not get addicted to thrift shopping?

Ashley and such

A Saturday run to the Amador Hospice Thrift Shop in the hopes of buying the pirate troll I saw last week (but he was gone), meant the addition of Ashley, the collector plate with a numbered certificate ($3.50), first issue in the Treasured Days collection by Higgins Bond.

And clothes galore - a complete thrift shop commando hunt always includes clothes!  Charter Club white eyelet collared, sleeveless shirt ($3.50), Arizona Jean Company black and grey polka dot t-shirt ($2.50), Croft & Barrow short-sleeved overshirt ($4.50), Suzie in the City polka dot skirt ($3.50), Liz Golf collared sleeveless silk shirt ($3.50) and an Inc. brand long-sleeved camo shirt ($4.50).

Two books at $2.50 each.  Glass dip bowls at 50 cents each (not pictured).  I will feature another Western-themed item for the Rural Thursday post.

Purple cow and pink flamingos

I had some time to kill so I popped back to the E Street Thrift Shop.  I first spotted the pink flamingo glass stirrers for 98 cents, 2 of the 4 were broken, but I figure at 50 cents a piece then, they are pretty cute!  Flowers courtesy of the midtown garden.

The Purple Cow book ($1.95) looked like an interesting read (hope to learn something about marketing my business-to-be, someday, in the future).  This is where the flamingos ended up - in my pencil cup at work.

And where is what I have been listening to ~ Donna Summer Gold 2 CD compilation.  Love her!

The fox - revisited

The fox made an appearance at the house on Sunday around two in the afternoon, just walked the perimeter then up the back steps.  I snapped the pictures from my cell phone.

This critter doesn't seem fearful of being around people, which seems odd.  Is there such a thing as a domesticated fox?

Sometimes it's just a bowl

I had gathered bags of clothing/misc. for donation at Goodwill and, of course, I had to check to see if anything new would catch my eye.  This Noritake sugar/dip bowl in the sorcerer pattern was mine for the grand sum of 99 cents.  That same bowl currently lists on Ebay from $14.99 to $28.99.

I so love this stoneware - the "pattern" has to be over 20 years old.  I have my coffee every morning in my blue stoneware cup.

A year or two back, I located a near entire set of Sango splash brown drip to replenish the set Mr. VZ had at the house.  I was THRILLED that set was priced at $10.

Do you have a favorite stoneware or china pattern?  Have you been able to locate any of the pieces in the thrift shops?

Tami Fun Day - feeling kinda yellow

I hadn't been to the Thrift Town off of Stockton Boulevard in Sacramento for quite awhile so it seemed time to check for some summer casuals.

Scored an Active USA black camisole with white lace trim ($1.49), a Betsey Johnson black sweater ($2.99), a tie die Fang tank top ($1.49) and a bag of hair doodads ($2.99).

Here are some fashion images featuring yellow ~ just because.

Eat, Sleep, Hunt. Repeat.

I found this sign at True Value.  Mr. VZ is an avid upland game hunter.  He and Zipper are quite the team.

This is Zipper in South Dakota, this past fall.

Spent a total of $6, for a Classic Poetry, an Illustrated Collection ($3) and 4H hat, pins and sash and a couple of patriotic pins ($3) at the thrift shops.

The leopard lanyard came from True Value also.

Successful in my hunt as thrift shop commando!

In keeping with the rustic theme ~

Friday's thrift shop finds were this distressed wood frame, original acrylic on board by E. Woodson.  Framed pictures top the commando shopping list and this one was a buy at $15.99 at Thrift Town.  I had the buy $15, get $5 off coupon so the stuffed critter in leopard trim was a freebie.

This is my shelf at work displaying my recent smalls purchases.  Looks sorta homey, doesn't it?

My blog post on the country scenes has been uber popular so I will be including more of those types of photographs in the future.

Baby doll mugshots

The baby dolls on shopgoodwill.com continue to fascinate me.  These are homeless Romanians.

The description reads, "Doll with yellow scarf is wearing tag that says, 'I am Marguerita of Romania.' Heads & limbs held on with rubber bands.  Headscarves appear to have been held on with glue and staples."  The pair is currently bidding at $6.00.

Vintage 1940s or 1950s pull string doll, currently bidding at $9.99 (with no bidders)

Note reads, "Doll has a hole in her back where I assume there used to be a pull string.  The string is no longer attached."  Where oh where did the dolly string go?  She even looks distressed!

Vintage 1920s era doll looks awfully darn good for a Goodwill dolly.

Here she is in the reclining position.  Bidding at $9.99.

Vintage 1930s Composition Baby Doll is wondering What the Heck Happened? and Where Am I?  Bidding at $9.99.

Full body shot of 30s comp baby - someone will see she is a keeper.

In Praise of Books

I so love hardcover books.  This past weekend I was able to read a novel, Revenge of the Middle-Aged Woman by Elizabeth Buchan.  What a treat!  I am usually studying college textbooks.

When I commando thrift shop, hardcover books are on the list of things to find.  The novel next up is John Irving's The Fourth Hand.  This author intrigues me and I've read nearly all of his books.

There is something about reading a book.  It is a meeting of minds with the author.  It allows you to ponder the characters and the story stays with you long after the tale is complete.

I read numerous blogs and articles online.  It is like fast food.  Snippets of information not totally fulfilling.  It is (dare I say it?) attention deficit reading.

This picture also gave me the chance to showcase the latest flower in bloom, a yellow lily.

I was traveling through Amador County today and wanted to share these images.

The last of the series of the rescued 35 mm slides of the New York World's Fair.  Gotta love triceratops, he has always been my fav dinosaur.

Brontosaurus and some other kind of saurus ~

Looks like quite a crowd, the breezy day certainly showcased the flags.

And the observation towers from a different angle.  Hope you've enjoyed this series of images!
