Once a musician, always a musician?

I listen to CDs on my commute to work.  Having been a violinist, it pains me somewhat to hear that instrument being played and not be able to perform myself.  Granted, we all have to give things up with only so many hours in the day.  I miss the violin - the weight of it against my chin, the tone of the instrument.  What caused this angst?  Listening to the violinist Joshua Bell performing songs by Gershwin.

Is there some activity or pursuit you've had to give up or put aside for the time being?

  1. Violin is a splendid instrument; if I had learnt an instrument, violin or piano would have been my choice. I hope it's time and not a physical issue preventing you from playing?
The only thing I can't do which I used to love is play squash-I kept injuring myself!

  2. I'm not a musician, but envy any talented one. I ran a small bakery and had to give it up for personal reasons. Nothing fancy, breads, muffins, pastries. Miss it . Always loved baking.

    1. Baking was my first love - but my waistline suffered for it.

  3. There are certain actives which my health problems prevent me from being able to do any longer that I really miss, such as most sports, riding a bike, rugged outdoor camping (it's "glamping" at best for me these days), and traveling on a whim, to name a few. Thankfully however, there are still a number of things that I love which I can do - and others that I've discovered and which have become an important part of my life in the years since becoming chronically ill, so when is all is said and done, I'm just grateful for those and try not to dwell on what cannot be any more.

I hope that you get a chance to reconnect with the violin one day. It truly is an incredibly beautiful instrument.

    1. Yes, I am all for glamping! We have a cabover that has all the comforts of home.

We do adjust to the failings of our bodies.

I do believe I will play the violin again, the pull is just too strong!

  4. Beautifully written. I miss my Ukrainian egg decorating and other visual arts, as well as reading, visiting friends, all related to being short on time and energy, and competing responsibilities!

    1. And those darn responsibilities - if it isn't the children, it is the elders. Gotta love em.

  5. Your blog is so much fun! You obviously have a great eye for finding fashion treasures but sounds like the violin is calling to you too! I'm so jealous of those with a talent for music- maybe just do a mini concert for blog followers? :) no pressure
