Gloriously happy to be Sharing in Style - Autumn

Linking up with Mis Papelicos for Share in Style - Autumn AND The Militant Baker to Glorifyhappiness-all-bodies-all-people.  She posts, "So do me a favor: capture your glory with me and these other bad-ass body lovers by joining in on the #GlorifyHappiness campaign..."

Jes at The Militant Baker instructs to "post a happy full body picture, post it and invite others to join in."  One reason I love my body is because I can wear all sorts of wonderful clothing! Thrifted, of course ~

Outfit details:
Worthington car coat
Bam Bam pearls (that is what I like to call them)
Eddie Bauer shirt
Hillard and Hanson skirt
Donald Pliner pumps.

Throwing in a McCall's pattern from 1958.

Join in the fun and link up with either event!

So what if I wear granny panties?

This past week I have been home sick with the flu. Home during the day means watching TV, lots of daytime TV. One interview I watched was with the group in a new Lifetime show called "Girlfriend Intervention" where four African Americans do "makeovers." Of note, Tanisha Thomas "soul coach" in the opening episode proclaims: "Trapped inside of every white girl is a strong black woman waiting to bust out." That sort of troubles me. What else is waiting to break out? It opens a whole new realm of possibilities.

But I digress, the group of four were discussing granny panties.Yes, those villified, oh so comfortable, I've earned the right to wear them panties.

Let's discuss that platinum-haired people will be the new reality in the future. Persons 65 and older numbered 39.6 million in 2009. By 2030, there will be 72.1 million older persons, more than twice the number from the year 2000.
http://www.aoa.gov/Aging_Statistics/

Are platinum-haired people represented in the news media, such as newscasters, forecasters and talk show hosts? Older men, yes, older women, no. You get the gist.

Are there platinum-haired women represented in the fashion circulars? No. No one older than 40, at the most. Do retailers misunderstand the buying power of the platinum-haired?  Well, we don't all buy thrift. Even though we are wearing those you-know-whats underneath doesn't mean we want to wear shrinking violet clothing. We WANT to be seen.

I understand invisibility. Granted the beauty of youth is pretty much kaput. I would be thrilled to see a platinum-haired peer highly visible in print, online, on demand, in front of the camera!

That is my riff for today. I will stand for the visibility of platinum-haired people everywhere ... and the right to wear granny panties!

Underrated Treasures Blogfest

Alex J. Cavanaugh is hosting the Underrated Treasures Blogfest.  He posted, "Everyone has a favorite movie or band that no one else has ever heard about.  For whatever reason, they remain undiscovered and underrated.  Now is your chance to tell the world about these obscure treasures."

BAND

My favorite band is CAKE, a Sacramento-based group, website http://cakemusic.com/ described as an alt rock band with influences of country music, Mariachi, Iranian folk music, funk and hip hop.

Upcoming tour dates:

November 1, 2014
Untapped Festival @ Gilly’s
Dallas, TX
November 2, 2014
Cain’s Ballroom
Tulsa, OK

TV SHOW

A TV show Mr. VZ and I discovered on Netflix, Lilyhammer, is described as a New York mobster goes into hiding in Lillehammer, Norway, after testifying against his former associates.

We found this show to be humorous, entertaining and refreshing in subject matter.

BOOK

A Steinbeck, not John but Thomas, his son, wrote a story collection, Down to A Soundless Sea.  Even though it was Thomas' fiction debut, I greatly enjoyed the book, partly because the stories were set along the California coast.  He has two other books in print I have yet to locate and read.

With the last AtoZ-related blog hop I participated in, my ninja-captain-alexs-top-ten-movie post remained my number one post for 2013.

Be sure to visit the other participants, there are some great suggestions.  I have new must-see and must-read lists.

A Perfectly Wonderful Day

It really was not a perfectly wonderful day in my real world.  But in blogland anything can happen.  Good things can happen.  A perfectly wonderful (not) day can include a moment of escape.

Posting with Patti at notdeadyetstyle for Visible Monday.

Posing with the Sacramento public art sculpture of "Walking the Dogs" by Gilbert Lujan.

Outfit details, shirt and shoes (retail)
Ballinger Gold sweater and Liz Claiborne skirt (thrifted)

Poseidon posed with the phantom me.  My ghostie is strategically covering a most controversial part of that statue.

Perfectly wonderful includes a pregnancy pattern of the day from 1954, Simplicity 4718.

Switching gears, I was going to include a selfie but it just wasn't happening.  This clip is even better!

Shelfie Blog Hop

Linking up with the Shelfie Blog Hop -

Dates: Now thru Monday, Oct 6
Entries: Take a picture of you and your book(s) - your favorites or your own novels. Or you can just arrange the books in a special way and take the picture - but you do get extra points for being in the photo.
Formats: Post on Twitter, Facebook, Blog - just make sure to include a link(s) to each of the hosts.

In my thrift shop wanderings, I keep an eye out for counter-culture books from the 1960s.  My latest purchase was B.F. Skinner's Walden Two.  Just to my left in this photo are books by Irving Horowitz, Saul D. Alinsky, Aldous Huxley and Jerry Rubin.  Peace out man!

Just for good measure, I'm also emailing my "shelfie" to Cameron Young at runningwithsnakes for his Stop Hating Selfies - Selfie Challenge.  Cameron posted various iterations of his self.  I'm not too sure about his cooking naked selfie *grins.*

Back to skeool

Fashion linking up with Anne for her 52-pick-me-up-back-to-school and with Patti for her Visible Monday at notdeadyetstyle.

My camera is producing some odd images so I figured I would go with it.  The shirt is a 70s material Lanie J, styled in California $1 thrift shop find.

The natural hair redhead wig was a previous thrift shop find and the optical quality Liz Claiborne collection sunglasses (50 cents) a recent purchase.  Wish I could have red hair but the color washes out too quickly.

I wore a long black skirt for this ensemble.  Nice how the New York Transit pumps photographed so well.

On the body positive front, Jes of themilitantbaker is making the move from part-time blogger to full-time blogger.  While I am not comfortable posting nude photos of myself online, as she and some of her followers may do, she espouses a "body love advocate" philosophy that I can agree with.

My newest favorite song - celebrates body acceptance.

I truly am back to school and taking a business management class on diversity in organizations.

Pattern of the day - a throwback from 1968.

I found 20 more patterns recently, the earliest dated 1954.  Most likely, I will show the balance of those images for my AtoZ posts this April.

Weekend thrifting scored the following: the 70s rooster, a stuffed My Little Pony, Gibsons teapot and Royal Sutherland plate (patterns and nylons - not pictured) all for $5 and the Charter Club pale pink Cashmere *sings the word* sweater for $2.99.

Vogoff Magazine has hit the virtual newstand!

The much anticipated, Zoolander-esque, irreverent take on sort-of fashion and et cetera has been published. I gave Melanie artistic license to adjust/tweek two images (wish I had more).  Squeee, I am so jazzed I made the back cover.

Warning:  There is some language that might offend sensitive souls.

Melanie aka Miz Baggs has undertaken this massive project of combining photo shoots of women from around the world in the Volume 4, September 2014 issue of VOGOFF-Magazine.

Sharing color from a 1979 pattern from Simplicity.  I think the blonde model in the pattern looks a lot like Cheryl Tiegs.

Upcoming blog event - the Underrated Treasures Blogfest, hosted by one of the "AtoZers" as I like to think of those that have participated in the annual A to Z Challenge each April. alexjcavanaugh
